Toolvy / Add AI Label

Quick answer

To label an image or video as AI-made, add a visible "Made with AI" badge and, for JPEG and PNG files, the IPTC "digital source type" field that platforms read to show AI labels. This tool does both in your browser: pick the wording, style, position and size, preview it, and download. Videos get the badge in every frame. Nothing is uploaded, and you can still switch on each platform’s own AI label when you post.

Step by step

How to add a "made with ai" label

  1. 01

Drop an image or a video

JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF and GIF images, or MP4, MOV and WebM videos. The file opens on your device and a live preview shows the badge where it will go.

  2. 02

    Choose the label

Pick "Made with AI", "AI-generated", "Edited with AI", "AI-assisted" or your own text, then a dark, light or outline style, a corner and a size. The preview updates as you change it.

  3. 03

    Add the label and download

Images are labelled instantly; JPEG and PNG files also get the IPTC AI field, checked by reading the result back. Videos are re-encoded once at high quality with the badge in every frame.

In depth

Why label AI images and videos?

Because platforms ask you to, and because audiences trust creators who are upfront. Meta asks people to disclose photorealistic AI video and realistic audio, TikTok requires a label on realistic AI-generated content, and YouTube asks creators to disclose realistic altered or synthetic media in YouTube Studio. A label you add yourself also travels with the file: reposts, screenshots and downloads keep a visible badge, while platform labels stay on the platform.

Two kinds of AI label, and what each one does.
LabelWhere it livesWho sees it
Visible badgeDrawn into the pixelsEveryone, wherever the image or video ends up — including screenshots
IPTC digital source typeMetadata inside a JPEG or PNGSoftware: platforms and search engines that read it to show their own AI labels
Platform toggleThe upload screen on TikTok, YouTube or InstagramViewers on that platform only

Which wording should I use?

Match the label to how much AI was involved. "AI-generated" or "Made with AI" fits an image or clip created by a generator. "Edited with AI" fits a real photo or video with AI changes — a replaced sky, a removed object, an extended background. "AI-assisted" suits work where AI helped but a person made most of it. The file label follows the same idea: "AI-generated" writes the IPTC term for fully synthetic media, and "Edited with AI" the term for a composite with AI-generated parts.

Does adding the label reduce quality?

Only by the amount any re-save does. Images are redrawn with the badge and saved in the same format — JPEG at high quality, PNG losslessly — so the difference is invisible at normal viewing sizes. Videos are re-encoded once with H.264 at a high-quality setting, and the audio is kept as it was where the format allows. HEIC and AVIF images come out as JPEG so every app can open them, and GIFs as PNG of the first frame.

What the label does not do

  • It does not replace the platform’s own setting. Switch on the AI label when you upload as well, so the platform shows it in its usual place.
  • It does not prove anything. A badge is a disclosure, not a certificate. To check whether an image was made with AI, use the AI image detector.
  • WebP images and videos get the visible badge only. The file label is written into JPEG and PNG files.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The image is drawn and saved by your browser, and the video is processed by a copy of ffmpeg running on your device; the ~10 MB engine downloads once and is cached. Open DevTools → Network while you label a file: no request carries it.

Want to see what a file already says about itself? The metadata viewer lists every field, including any AI labels and Content Credentials. To check an image you did not make, try the AI image detector, which now draws a heatmap of the areas that look generated.

Your files never leave your device

Processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded. You can verify it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and use the tool — no upload request is ever made.

  • No file is ever uploaded to a server
  • Works offline after the first visit
  • No account, no watermark, no limits

Frequently asked questions

01

How do I add a "Made with AI" label to a picture?

Drop the picture here, choose "Made with AI" or another wording, pick a style, corner and size, and select Add label. The badge is drawn into the image, and JPEG and PNG files also get the standard IPTC AI field. Download the result and post it as usual.

02

Do I have to label AI images on social media?

For realistic content, usually yes. Meta asks for disclosure of photorealistic AI video and realistic audio, TikTok requires labels on realistic AI-generated content, and YouTube asks creators to disclose realistic altered or synthetic media. Rules change, so check each platform’s current policy; labelling by default is the safe habit.

03

Will Instagram or Facebook detect the label in the file?

Meta has said it reads industry-standard signals, including IPTC metadata and C2PA, to show its "AI info" label. This tool writes the IPTC digital source type into JPEG and PNG files. Platforms decide what they display, so also use the AI toggle when you upload.

04

Can I label videos as well as images?

Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV or WebM video and the badge is added to every frame in one high-quality re-encode, with the audio kept. The result is an MP4 that plays everywhere. The file-level IPTC label applies to JPEG and PNG images only.

05

What is the difference between "AI-generated" and "Edited with AI"?

AI-generated means the whole image or clip came from a generator. Edited with AI means a real photo or video was changed with AI — a replaced background, an added object or an extended frame. The file label writes the matching IPTC term for each.

06

Can I write my own wording?

Yes. Choose Custom and type up to 28 characters, such as "Image created with AI" or "AI-enhanced photo". The badge keeps the sparkle mark and resizes to fit the text, and the preview shows exactly how it will look.

07

Is the label permanent?

The visible badge is part of the image or video, so it survives screenshots and reposts unless someone crops it off. The IPTC field can be removed by apps that strip metadata, which is why using both — and the platform’s own label — is the most reliable way to disclose.
