Remove Watermark from Photo
- Free
- No upload
- No watermark
Quick answer
Paint over a watermark, logo, line of text or date stamp on a photo you own. Before any AI fill, the tool keeps every real pixel it can: a see-through strip or see-through text is mathematically un-blended to recover the photo underneath, and only the solid letters themselves are filled by an AI model with background that matches their surroundings, so a face or car under the mark stays intact. It runs entirely in your browser, so the image is never uploaded.
What it does
What the remove watermark from photo does
You mark the watermark and an AI model fills it in: MI-GAN, an open-source, MIT-licensed inpainting network built for mobile devices, running in your browser through WebAssembly. It continues the texture and color around the mark into the space it leaves.
Use it only on images you own or have permission to edit: photos you watermarked yourself, your own logo, the date an old camera printed in the corner, a DRAFT stamp on your own design. Removing the watermark from someone else’s photo, such as a stock image, to use it without a license infringes copyright, and in the US can also violate DMCA §1202, which covers the removal of copyright management information. If you want a stock photo, buy the license: the clean file comes with it.
Results are best on small-to-medium areas over natural texture: sky, grass, a wall, skin, text on a busy background. Large areas and regular structure, such as faces, overlapping text or straight architectural lines, can come out soft or smudged. Nothing is upscaled or enhanced, and large photos keep full resolution: the model works on a crop around the mask.
Step by step
How to use it
- 01
Open your image
Drop the photo in or browse for it. The roughly 28 MB model downloads on first use, then stays cached.
- 02
Mark the watermark
Paint over it with the brush, sized to fit, or drag a box over a block of text; the eraser, undo and redo fix mistakes.
- 03
Press Remove and compare
The model fills the marked area. If a faint outline survives in the before-and-after view, paint over it and remove again.
- 04
Download
Save as PNG or JPEG at the original resolution; only the area you painted is regenerated.
Your images never leave your device
Images being cleaned up are often not public yet: a client’s product shots before launch, your own artwork, family scans. None of it needs a server: the model downloads once and every fill is computed on your own device, as your browser’s Network tab will confirm.
- No file is ever uploaded to a server
- Works offline after the first visit
- No account, no watermark, no limits

Format and quality tips
- 01
Paint a little past the edges
Lettering and logos have soft edges, often with a faint shadow or glow, and anything left outside the mask reappears in the fill as a ghost outline. Cover a few pixels beyond the mark; for a date stamp, one drag of the box tool catches every digit.
- 02
Work in passes, then zoom out
A large mark removed in one go asks the model to invent a lot. Remove it in sections so each fill has more real background around it, and judge each pass at viewing size, since any fill looks softer magnified.

Frequently asked questions
01Is it legal to remove a watermark from an image?
Yes, if the image is yours or you have permission to edit it, such as your own watermarked photos or an old camera date stamp. Stripping someone else’s watermark, say from a stock photo, to use it unlicensed infringes copyright, and in the US can also breach DMCA §1202.
02Does it bring back what was under the watermark?
No. Everything inside the mask is replaced, not restored. The model paints a plausible continuation of the surrounding pixels, so a logo removed from a brick wall becomes more brick wall, not the exact bricks that were hidden. On sky or a plain backdrop, nobody can tell.
03Can it find the watermark automatically?
No. You mark it yourself with the brush or the box, which confines the change to exactly the area you choose, whether that is a faint corner logo or a caption across the middle. The eraser takes back any stray part of the mask.
04How do I remove a date stamp from an old photo?
Drag a box over the date with a small margin and press Remove. Date stamps usually sit in a corner over grass, floor, sky or a wall, the texture the model fills best. Where digits cross a face or a hard edge, expect a softer patch.
05Why does the removed area look blurry or smudged?
The area was probably large, or it sat over regular structure such as a face, straight lines or other text, where invented detail is easy to spot. Paint a slightly larger mask so no edge of the mark survives, or remove it in smaller passes.
06What is the 28 MB download, and is my image uploaded?
It is the MI-GAN model, downloaded once, cached by your browser and run locally through WebAssembly. Your image goes nowhere: it is opened in the tab, processed on your own device and saved back to your disk, which you can confirm in your browser’s Network tab.
