AI Metadata Remover
- Free
- No upload
- No watermark
Quick answer
AI metadata is the data in a file that records how it was made — C2PA Content Credentials, IPTC "digital source type" labels, generator names and embedded prompts — and it is one of the signals Instagram and Facebook check before showing an "AI info" label. This tool strips it in your browser without re-encoding, keeping camera details, copyright and location unless you choose Everything. Nothing is uploaded, and invisible watermarks such as SynthID are not touched.
Step by step
How to ai metadata remover
- 01
Drop your files
Drop one file or a batch — images, videos, audio or PDFs. Each is inspected on your device before anything changes.
- 02
See what the AI data says
The AI & provenance group lists Content Credentials with the tool that signed them, such as Adobe Firefly or OpenAI, plus IPTC AI labels, generator tags and prompts.
- 03
Pick a mode and remove
AI & provenance only is preselected and keeps camera details, copyright and GPS. Switch to Everything to strip every field, then run the removal.
- 04
Check and download
Each cleaned file is inspected again, so you see exactly what is left. Download files one by one or together as a ZIP.

What counts as AI metadata?
AI tools record their work next to the image or video data, not inside it. Four kinds are common: a signed C2PA manifest; the IPTC digital source type, such as trainedAlgorithmicMedia; a Software or CreatorTool tag naming the app; and the prompt itself, saved by Stable Diffusion front ends, NovelAI and Midjourney.
| Type | Where it lives | What it says | Removed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| C2PA Content Credentials | JUMBF boxes: JPEG APP11, PNG caBX, MP4 uuid, a PDF embedded file | Who signed it, actions such as "created", the source type | Yes, the whole manifest |
| IPTC digital source type | The XMP packet | trainedAlgorithmicMedia (generated) or compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia (AI edit in a real photo) | Yes |
| Generator tags | EXIF Software, XMP CreatorTool, PNG text | The generator or AI editing app | Yes |
| Prompts and settings | PNG chunks (parameters, prompt, workflow), EXIF UserComment, XMP description | Prompt, seed, sampler, model — or ComfyUI’s whole node graph | Yes |
| Invisible watermarks | The pixels or audio (SynthID, Meta Video Seal, Digimarc) | That a given model made it | No — not metadata |
Why does Instagram show "AI info" on my photo?
On upload, Meta’s apps look for those industry-standard signals — C2PA manifests and IPTC source-type values — and show AI info when they find one. Real photos get caught too: removing a dust spot with generative fill is enough for the editor to record an AI edit, which is why Meta softened the label from "Made with AI" in 2024. Meta also checks for invisible watermarks and uses its own detection, so cleaning a file removes the metadata signal and nothing more.
AI & provenance only, or Everything?
- AI & provenance only (this page’s default) removes what is in the table and keeps camera make and model, lens, author, copyright, dates and GPS — so switch if the file should not reveal where it was made.
- Everything removes every field except the color profile and, on JPEGs, the orientation flag, so colors and rotation stay the same. It also drops JPEG HDR gain maps and depth maps, which carry their own metadata; HDR screens then show the photo in standard range.
Either way nothing is re-encoded. Image metadata is cut out at the byte level, so pixels stay bit-for-bit identical; video and audio are stream-copied by a ~10 MB engine that downloads once; and every output is inspected again before you download it.
What does it not do?
The good reasons to clean a file are ordinary ones: privacy, since credentials and prompts can reveal your account, tools, edit history and exactly what you typed; a real photo mislabeled after a small AI-assisted edit; smaller files; and clean deliverables for clients.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Inspection, removal and the final check all run in your browser tab. Open DevTools → Network and clean a file: no request carries it anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
01Will Instagram still label my image as AI?
If the label came from metadata alone — usual for a real photo with a small AI-assisted edit — a cleaned copy has nothing left to trigger it on a fresh upload. But Meta also checks for invisible watermarks and runs its own detection, so a fully generated image can still be labeled.
02Does this remove SynthID?
No. SynthID is an invisible watermark that Google’s models build into the pixels of images and video and into the sound of audio. It is not metadata, so removing metadata leaves it in place. Toolvy does not alter pixels or audio samples and does not try to remove watermarks.
03Does removing AI metadata reduce quality?
No. Images are cleaned at the byte level, so every pixel is identical, and video and audio are stream-copied rather than re-encoded. The only change you might notice: Everything mode drops JPEG HDR gain maps, so an HDR photo shows in standard range on an HDR screen.
04Which AI tools put metadata in their files?
Adobe Firefly, Photoshop’s generative features, OpenAI’s image tools and Microsoft Designer attach C2PA Content Credentials. Stable Diffusion front ends save the prompt — AUTOMATIC1111 in a "parameters" text chunk, ComfyUI in "prompt" and "workflow" chunks — and NovelAI and Midjourney store prompts too.
05Can the metadata be recovered after removal?
Not from the cleaned copy: the bytes are deleted, not hidden. Your original is unchanged, though, and copies you already shared still carry everything. Some services also keep a record outside the file — credentials stored online, linked by a watermark or fingerprint — which removal cannot reach.
06Can I keep my camera details and copyright?
Yes. AI & provenance only mode, which this page starts in, removes Content Credentials, IPTC AI labels, generator tags and prompts, and keeps camera make and model, lens, author, copyright and dates. It keeps GPS too, so switch to Everything if the photo was taken somewhere private.
